Meet a young technician: Collen Pulfer
Collen Pulfer is bringing military discipline and determination to diesel mechanics, using his U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs benefits and the support of his emotional support animal, Clyde, as he pursues his new career at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Livingston.
Vehicle Service Pros is partnering with TechForce Foundation to share profiles and perspectives of young automotive technicians who are in the early days of their careers. These students were asked: "What is one skill you would like to master?"
Pulfer is attending TCAT Livingston and studying diesel mechanics.
"I am using VA benefits," which he earned during his time with the U.S. Air Force. TechForce Foundation says Pulfer represents the thousands of veterans who transition from military service to technical careers each year.
Pulfer's leadership extends beyond his own education. "We have recently established a Student Veterans group on campus, where we support and advocate for our fellow student veterans," he says.
The school has made meaningful accommodations for his success. "This picture is my emotional support animal, Clyde, in our shop at school. The school has recently allowed me to bring Clyde to help me deal with PTSD."
Pulfer's focus is on electrical systems within diesel technology. "I am most looking forward to learning electrician and using 596DMM," he says.
