Q: What makes this product innovative?
A: One of the things that really makes this product innovative is its 12 ounces, so it's so light. It's got the PVC layer, so that you don't have to worry about cleaning it up or whatnot. It was intentionally designed to be 8” by 10” so that it would fit on lift posts. And of course, the thing that people are really excited about is that it can hold up to 40 lbs, and it's really like a modern interpretation of a parts bowl. Something that's been around for 25 years, but it does what a parts bowl does, and it does it better.
Q: What was the inspiration behind creating the product?
A: The inspiration was really about making the technician's life better. We want to make things more productive, so that they can get more done and make more money at the end of the day. And this product really checks all those boxes.
Q: How would you say that this is going to improve the lives of technicians and shop owners?
A: It really excels where parts bowls let you down. So, a parts bowl, you can put your parts in there, right? But you can't really put any tools. It's too oddly shaped. And so, this will allow you to carry your tools as well as your parts. It also goes to the next level, holding oversized tools … [and] versatile in that it's flexible, so you can fold this and you can put it on either side of a lift post, for instance, and then you can hold different tools on different sides. I've seen people use it on arms, posts, transmission jacks, toolboxes, control arms, frame rails, and vehicles. So, if you're working on a job and you want to have your tools at hand, it's been great.
Q: What feedback have you been getting from technicians?
A: Very positive feedback. They love the strength of the magnets. We use a rare-earth magnet that's a really high-quality magnet. It's also easy to use. And they love the durability of the PVC and the mat itself. And additionally, it can hold so much weight, while being so light. So, it hardly feels like I'm holding anything, but knowing that this will hold 40 pounds, it's absolutely jaw-dropping. It's also very forgiving, and what I mean by that is, if you put this on a metal surface, and then you've got your tools on it, or your parts, when you go to pull those off, the mat is not coming with it, right? It'll stay attached, but you can get what you need to and then move on with your job.
Q: Is there anything else that our readers should know?
A: Yeah, actually, I would love for the readers to check out these two pieces of content we did that really did a good job of showcasing the strength and flexibility of the MagMat, but also got people really excited. We had this one video where we took the MagMat and we just put it on the lid of one of our service carts, so not a ton of steel there. And then we took one of our 22-ton truck jack stands and put it on there, which weighs about 36 pounds, and it just locked in.
And then the other one was we partnered with Rad Dan, and he has a 1,000hp Mk4 Supra, and we placed the MagMat on his target top of the Supra, which most of the cars are fiberglass or but this one, the target top is still steel. So, we put the MagMat there, and we put about five different wrenches on and then he drifted in his shop, and then out front. And so that was a really cool piece to kind of communicate how effective the MagMat is.
And in addition to that, we just launched two new products that are kind of part of that line. So, the Mag Bowl. This is a 10” by 10” mat, but it has these snaps that you can use. And why this is advantageous is because you may have materials like plastic clips, right, or aluminum fittings, or whatnot, and so the snaps allow you to put it into a bowl format, so that you can still carry those items, as well as your ferrous items. And then in addition to that, we also have the Mag Strip. This is really a great piece for creepers and for seats, and really anywhere that you're limited on space. So, this one holds up to 15 pounds, [and the Mag Bowl holds] 25 pounds. So, those are some things that might be of interest to the audience that we have here with the technicians and shop owners.
