DENSO introduces Iridium TT spark plug at AAPEX

DENSO announced Wednesday at AAPEX a new line of spark plugs engineered to last more than 100,000 miles on the road, and provide more power and superior fuel economy.

The new DENSO Iridium TT spark plug, with its unique Twin Tip Technology and patented design, delivers far less obstruction to the spark than standard plugs, allowing an omni-directional expansion of the ignition flame. Small electrode tips mean less spark interference and more complete combustion.

“With iridium overtaking platinum spark plugs as the new OEM standard, we knew the aftermarket needed a top-performing, high-value iridium replacement plug,” says Fran Labun, vice president, Sales Group, DENSO Products and Services Americas, as he introduced the product during an AAPEX press conference in Las Vegas. “The new DENSO Iridium TT spark plug is an innovative design that helps ensure complete combustion, even after many thousands of miles of use.”

The DENSO Iridium TT spark plug has the world's smallest center electrode, a 0.4 mm needle tip, composed of a patented iridium-rhodium alloy that offers exceptional protection against corrosion and high-temperature oxidation. The ground electrode also has a needle tip – a 0.7 mm platinum needle that’s designed to resist oxidation and wear. These small electrode tips create less interference for the ignition flame to expand and fully complete the combustion process.

The Iridium TT’s Twin Tips allow the spark plug to create the largest spark concentration and explosion, which translates into more power and superior fuel economy than other spark plugs.

A wide variety of heat ranges is not necessary to cover the vast majority of North American vehicles. In fact, just 19 DENSO part numbers will cover 92 percent of vehicles on the road today. “That’s good news for everyone in the aftermarket, from Wholesale Distributor (W/Ds) and jobbers to installers,” says Labun.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price will be $7.99, Labun said. He added that the product has been “years in the making” as its idea concept began in about 2005.

DENSO also announced at AAPEX that it is expanding its line of high-quality, First Time Fit® cabin air filters to cover 8,900 applications – that’s 90 percent coverage of the entire cabin air filter market or 123 million units in operation.  “With this new expansion, we have DENSO cabin air filters for every major domestic, European and Asian brand of vehicle from Acura to Pontiac to Volvo,” says David Jack, senior manager of Thermal Product Management, DENSO Products and Services Americas.

DENSO cabin air filters are manufactured and tested to meet or exceed OE standards, and have up to five layers of super-fine filtration media to trap impurities down to just 0.1 micron in size. Special fleece material allows optimal airflow along with exceptional filtration while minimizing noise.

To make it easy to find the correct filter, the 2015 DENSO Filter Catalog includes applications by manufacturer, reference information on new numbers, a complete photo guide by part number, a buyer’s guide by part number, cross-reference by competitor and UPC barcode reference. DENSO also announced the expansion of its line of Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors, now covering more than 70 percent of the TPMS market. Mandated in new passenger vehicles in 2007, TPMS alerts drivers to under-inflated tires, a significant issue for safety and tire life.

DENSO “First Time Fit” TPMS sensors were launched earlier this year with 16 part numbers covering 100 popular passenger cars from Toyota, Lexus and Scion, and Honda and Acura. The new expanded line introduces part numbers and application-specific kits for GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicles, in total covering more than 54 million vehicles in operation.

“There’s a growing need for replacement Tire Pressure Monitoring System sensors, but not every replacement part is designed to OE specs and quality,” says Labun.

DENSO First Time Fit TPMS sensors:

·       Use OE technology to maintain diagnostic capabilities, enabling quick and accurate troubleshooting.

·       Provide a quick, direct fit with no need for time-consuming cloning or programming.

·       Have a 1-year warranty and an anticipated 10-year battery life.

TPMS sensor part numbers are published in DENSO e-Catalogs. Customers can place an order by contacting a DENSO sales representative, calling Customer Service at 1-877-675-5463 (option 2), or emailing [email protected].
