As it turns out, that new car smell we all like isn't good for us. According to Milliken & Company, a large textile and chemical manufacturer that announced the availability of Active Odor Control at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, many of those smells we associate with new vehicles are actually potentially hazardous Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, VOCs are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some which may have short and long-term adverse health effects. Health risks from VOCs can include eye, nose and throat irritation and even liver, kidney and central nervous system damage.

The Active Odor Control system passively and actively improves the air quality in the cabin of a vehicle by neutralizing all airborne particles in the cabin. Active Odor Control is catalyst-based technology which will reduce odor for the life of the fabric. In addition to VOCs, Active Odor Control also works against interior environment odors such as exhaust fumes, cigarette smoke, pet odors and food odors not caused by stains on the fabric.

Yes Essentials seating upholstery and floor mats with Active Odor Control are available to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) immediately. Yes Essentials is also working with aftermarket manufactures to provide replacement seat covers and floor mats with Active Odor Control.

So don't let your customers breathe in and enjoy that "new car smell;" it could be hazardous to their health.
