(Oct. 30, 2007) IntelliStick, Inc. announced the launch of its IntelliStick patented dipstick replacement sensor technology during SEMA Show 2007. Intellistick monitors and reports the actual condition of automotive engine oil in real time.

The IntelliStick system was designed by Robert Kauffman to electronically monitor anti-wear conditions in engine oil and to continuously scan for water/coolant and fuel contamination. Due to the sensor's ability to communicate with any Microsoft Windows-based Bluetooth-enabled PDA, cell phone or laptop, the IntelliStick can provide motorists a 24-hour, continuously updated picture of the actual condition of their engine oil based on real-time fluid analysis. The IntelliStick allows motorists to get the maximum mileage and performance out of their motor oil.

"Rather than best-guess algorithms based on arbitrary mileage, time and heat averages, the IntelliStick sensor directly measures the actual, real-time condition of engine oil to allow motorists to know the absolute best time for a change," Kauffman explained. "This is the first time that drivers can get a continually updated, laboratory-grade picture of the actual state of their engine oil delivered wirelessly to their personal electronic devices for easy viewing."

Kauffman, a research chemist and fluid analysis group leader for the last 20 years at the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) developed the technology for the U.S. government. IntelliStick represents the first time the general public has had access to this pioneering methodology that detects anti-oxidant conditions and oxidation/acid build-up in motor oils. Early detection of these conditions can lead to improved performance, greater fuel economy and contribute to longer engine life.

HOW IT WORKS
The IntelliStick uses a simple, patented type of conductivity test that applies low voltage with slow varying waveforms across two sensor arrays. The system measures changes in the electrochemical current flow caused by additive package depletion and impurities that accumulate over time in engine oil. As more additives are depleted, most notably antioxidants and detergents, the oil's conductivity is compromised, which leads to a corresponding reduction in the IntelliStick sensor reading.

Kauffman used U.S. military tests on thousands of hours with Humvee engines to develop the "Kauffman Curve". The Kauffman Curve shows the direct correlation between oil additive depletion and useful oil life. The Kauffman Curve forms the basis of the information that is sent wirelessly from the in-car IntelliStick sensor to the user's Bluetooth-enabled PDA, cell phone or laptop.

The IntelliStick is compatible with most gasoline and diesel engines.
