Key Highlights

  • The NHTSA enforces safety standards and issues recalls for vehicles with safety-related defects to protect drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.
  • Recent recalls involve issues such as weak weld studs in seat belt brackets, software glitches affecting driver-assistance features, and defective airbag inflators, all of which pose safety risks.
  • Automakers are providing free repairs, including part replacements and software updates, to address these safety concerns and ensure vehicle compliance.
  • Staying informed about recall campaigns helps vehicle owners and service professionals maintain safety and prevent potential injuries or accidents.
  • Recalls like those for Land Rover, Ford, GM, Hyundai, and Kia demonstrate ongoing efforts to improve vehicle safety and address manufacturing defects.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is the federal agency responsible for keeping U.S. roadways safe by enforcing vehicle performance standards and overseeing safety recalls. When a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle, piece of equipment, car seat, or tire creates an unreasonable safety risk or fails to meet minimum safety standards, a recall is issued. These recalls mandate that automakers provide a free remedy—typically a repair, component replacement, or software update—to resolve the defect and protect drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. Staying informed about the latest recall campaigns is crucial for both vehicle owners and service professionals to ensure vehicles remain safe and compliant on the road.

Land Rover

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC is recalling certain 2026 Land Rover Defender vehicles. The third-row lower seat belt anchorage bracket may contain a weld stud of insufficient strength due to material contamination at the supplier. An insufficiently strong weld stud could result in the safety restraint system not functioning correctly in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of occupant injury. Dealers will replace the third-row lower seat belt anchorage bracket at no cost to owners under NHTSA Campaign ID 26V163.

Ford/Lincoln

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2022-2025 Lincoln Navigator, 2024-2025 Lincoln Nautilus, 2025 Ford Explorer, and 2025 Lincoln Aviator vehicles equipped with a 5-radar sensor configuration. Unexpected and repeated resets of the Image Processing Module A (IPMA) can lead to an intermittent or persistent loss of the rearview camera image and various driver-assistance features. A loss of rearview camera image can increase the risk of a crash while backing up. Dealers will update the IPMA software, or provide an Over-the-Air (OTA) update, at no cost to owners under NHTSA Campaign ID 26V165.

General Motors

General Motors, LLC is recalling certain 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, as well as 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 vehicles. The roof-rail airbag (RRAB) inflators may contain a manufacturing defect that can result in an inflator end cap separation or a sidewall split. If the inflator ruptures, compressed gas and metal components can be propelled into the vehicle cabin, increasing the risk of injury to occupants. Dealers will replace the left and right side RRAB modules at no cost to owners under NHTSA Campaign ID 26V166.

Hyundai

Hyundai Motor America is recalling certain 2026 Hyundai Palisade and Palisade Hybrid vehicles equipped with "Limited" or "Calligraphy" trim packages. The internal wiring within the third-row driver-side seat belt buckles may be damaged due to excessive tension, which can prevent the system from detecting if the seat belt is latched. Unfastened seat belts that are not properly detected increase the risk of injury during a crash. Dealers will install a wiring harness extension and, if necessary, replace the seat belt buckle assembly at no cost to owners under NHTSA Campaign ID 26V169.

Kia

Kia America, Inc. is recalling certain 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid SX Prestige and X-Line SX Prestige vehicles equipped with the optional Executive Package. The power second-row seat assemblies may not detect obstructions and could continue to move during power-folding or tilt-and-slide operations while an occupant is present. If the seat does not detect an occupant and continues to move, it increases the risk of injury. A remedy is currently under development; however, any repairs will be performed at no cost to owners under NHTSA Campaign ID 26V173.
