ASE and U.S. Secret Service Underscore Demand for Accredited Service Technicians
The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence ASE and the U.S. Secret Service are highlighting the critical need for well-qualified automotive technicians to support federal law enforcement operations. Because mobility is a vital component of protective services, the Secret Service utilizes a diverse array of specialized, customized vehicles to securely transport national leaders.
To ensure these complex vehicles operate safely, the Secret Service mandates that all technicians performing maintenance and repairs hold ASE Certifications.
“The fact that the Secret Service employs qualified auto technicians underscores the range of career opportunities in this industry that require far more than turning a wrench,” said Dave Johnson, president and CEO of ASE. “Modern vehicles are effectively ‘rolling robots’ with sophisticated electronics, microchips and more lines of code than a modern fighter jet, and protective service vehicles like those used by the Secret Service are even more complex.”
Career Opportunities and Awareness
The U.S. Secret Service recently joined ASE at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo AAPEX in Las Vegas to raise awareness regarding the diverse career paths available to technicians. Beyond vehicle maintenance, the agency is responsible for protecting national leaders and investigating financial crimes and counterfeiting.
“Qualified vehicle technicians can find demand for their expertise from coast to coast, and ASE Certification gives them a way to demonstrate their knowledge and aptitude to potential employers,” Johnson added.
