Auto parts manufacturers, distributors have some options to deal with parts proliferation

As the number of vehicles in operation increases and vehicle technology expands, auto parts manufacturers and aftermarket distributors strain to provide the right parts to auto repairers.

Bruce Adams, managing editor for Aftermarket Business World, wrote a blog, “Parts proliferation threatens auto parts manufacturers, aftermarket distributors.”

An ever-increasing number and type of vehicles on the road, each one featuring more and more advanced technology, has resulted in an explosion of potential parts needed by repair shops. Parts proliferation might be the biggest threat to auto repairers in their quest to fix their customers’ vehicles in a timely fashion.

The explosion in the potential number of parts needed to repair vehicles in operation places stress on auto parts manufacturers and aftermarket distributors. Parts manufacturers have increased tooling and production costs to make more replacement parts. Aftermarket distributors need to be able to supply all those parts for their auto repairer customers.
