Auto Profit Masters turns new overtime rule into a vehicle for profit

In light of the updated rule, Auto Profit Masters has released a new Incentive Pay Plan program that will allow clients to be both federally compliant and remain profitable, while also reinforcing a company culture that creates loyal and committed employees.

On December 1st of this year, the Department of Labor’s final rule updating overtime regulations will go into effect. These rules will require all shop owners to pay overtime for every service writer, shop foreman, lube manager and bookkeeper who makes a salary of less than $47, 476 annually (or $913/week). Commissions and bonuses are not counted toward the salary.

A shop owner who pays a service writer $500/week, along with commissions and bonuses to support 60 hours of work/week, will be required under the new overtime labor law to add an additional $20,000 to that annual salary. Shop owners can simply pay more for the same amount of work being done, and make sacrifices elsewhere in the shop. Or they can turn this expensive update into an opportunity by implementing an Incentive Pay Plan tailored to their exact needs.
