Under HB 6169, the responsibility for identifying the lienholder would fall to the Illinois Secretary of State, thus increasing cycle time for shops, creating unnecessary paperwork and recordkeeping burdens and failing to address the root problem of holding the negligent vehicle owner responsible for his or her automobile. Finally, ASA is concerned that the state government infrastructure is not in place to perform the required duties.
ASA opposes Illinois HB 6169. ASA asks Illinois repair shops to go to ASA’s legislative website, www.TakingTheHill.com, select “Alerts” to send a letter to their state legislators in opposition to the legislation.
