Ford Motor Company is recalling 741,195 vehicles: 82,570 model year 2021 Ford F-150s, 40,197 2020-2021 Lincoln Aviators, 313,147 2020-2021 Ford Explorers, 59,079 2018-2021 Lincoln Navigators and 246,202 2018-2021 Ford Expeditions equipped with park-by-wire functionality and 10R60, 10R80 or 10R80MHT transmissions.
The transmission valve body separator plate may restrict fluid flow to the park valve, causing temporary engagement of the park pawl when certain shifts are commanded and potentially damaging the park system. As a result, an affected vehicle may move after the driver shifts into Park.
Although the vehicles have roll-away detection that automatically applies the electric parking brake when movement is detected, the Powertrain Control Module may not be awake after the vehicle has been powered down and may fail to detect movement, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
Ford is aware of 24 allegations of property damage and nine alleged injuries, two involving emotional injury, related to the condition.
Dealers will update the Powertrain Control Module software and inspect the transmission for park-system damage, replacing damaged components as necessary, at no charge. Interim owner-notification letters are expected to mail beginning Aug. 3, 2026, with remedy notifications to follow in phases in the second quarter of 2027. The recall is being conducted under NHTSA Campaign ID 26V402 (Ford recall 26S48).
