This Week's Recalls: June 8-12

This week's recalls top 2.76 million vehicles, led by a 1.08-million-unit Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator fire-risk campaign with a park-outside advisory, alongside a major Honda and Acura rear subframe corrosion recall, two Ford actions, and a track-only brake fire risk on the Aston Martin Valkyrie.

Key Highlights

  • Roughly 1.08 million Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles may have a power steering pump electrical connection that can overheat and cause a fire, and owners are advised to park away from structures until repaired.
  • About 880,500 Honda Ridgeline, Pilot, and Passport and Acura MDX vehicles in salt-belt states may suffer rear subframe corrosion that can fracture rear suspension mounting points, with free inspection and reinforcement or repair.
  • Approximately 548,500 Ford Expedition SUVs may have center console chrome trim that bubbles and peels into a sharp edge, with 65 injuries reported and free console replacement where needed.
  • Over 255,000 Ford Focus cars recorded as fixed under a 2018 recall may never have received the correct software, leaving a stall-without-warning risk, with a free software update.
  • Seven Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercars with the track suspension pack may develop brake master cylinder pressure latching on track that can overheat the brakes and start a fire, with free master cylinder replacement.

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling 1,076,999 model year 2021-2025 Jeep Wrangler (787,887 vehicles) and Gladiator (289,112 vehicles) vehicles built between June 2020 and December 2024. In affected vehicles, the Electric Hydraulic Power Steering Pump electrical connection may be susceptible to high resistance — traced to a pump header manufactured out of tolerance and a terminal push-out condition — which can cause overheating of combustible materials at the connection. As a result, overheating may lead to a vehicle fire, increasing the risk of injury to occupants and people nearby, and out of an abundance of caution FCA US advises owners to park away from structures and other vehicles until the remedy is completed. Warning signs may include a loss of power steering assist or a "Service Power Steering" message; FCA US is aware of 35 field reports confirmed to originate at the pump interface and one related injury. Dealers will inspect and repair or replace the affected parts as necessary, free of charge, under NHTSA Campaign ID 26V363 (FCA recall 21D).

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)

American Honda is recalling 880,514 vehicles sold or registered in salt-belt states — the 2017-2023 Honda Ridgeline (110,070 vehicles), 2016-2022 Honda Pilot (463,253 vehicles), 2019-2023 Honda Passport (89,674 vehicles), and 2014-2020 Acura MDX (217,517 vehicles). In affected vehicles, rear subframes manufactured with improper coating specifications may experience premature paint peeling near the arm bracket weld area, and heavy road-salt exposure can then corrode and thin the metal at the rear suspension mounting points until they fracture. As a result, a failed rear control arm or lower arm mounting point can misalign or inadequately retain a rear wheel, degrading handling, stability, and braking and increasing the risk of a crash. Warning signs include abnormal noise or vibration from the rear suspension and changes in handling. Dealers will inspect the rear subframe and install a reinforcement kit, repairing or replacing corroded subframe components as necessary, free of charge, under NHTSA Campaign ID 26V365 (Honda recalls AOU and AOT).

Ford Motor Company

Ford Motor Company is recalling 548,463 model year 2018-2024 Ford Expedition SUVs built between March 2017 and December 2024. In affected vehicles, the chrome plating on the center console may bubble and peel from the base material, creating a sharp exposed edge within easy reach of the driver and front passenger. As a result, occupants can be cut by the peeling chrome — Ford is aware of 65 injuries globally, including hand and finger lacerations that in some cases required professional medical attention. Bubbling typically appears before peeling, so the condition is visible to occupants. Dealers will inspect the center console and replace it if bubbling or peeling is present, free of charge; interim owner letters are expected in late June 2026, with remedy availability planned for early 2027, under NHTSA Campaign ID 26V368 (Ford recall 26S38).

Aston Martin

Aston Martin The Americas is recalling 7 model year 2024 Valkyrie hypercars equipped with the track suspension pack. In affected vehicles, under a very specific combination of track-only conditions — an ESP intervention during an oversteer slide combined with heavy brake application — a seal in a brake master cylinder can deform and trap pressure in one diagonal brake circuit. As a result, the latched brakes can drag and overheat to the point that the resin in the carbon fiber rear brake cooling duct can ignite, causing a fire; Aston Martin notes the conditions cannot be met in normal road driving, and the unaffected diagonal circuit can still bring the car to a controlled stop. The driver may notice brake drag and abnormal pedal feel, but no warning appears in the instrument cluster. Dealers will replace both brake master cylinders with a revised seal and piston design built for ESP operation, a repair of up to five hours at no cost, under NHTSA Campaign ID 26V359 (Aston Martin recall RA-06-2062).

Ford Motor Company

Ford Motor Company is recalling 255,404 model year 2012-2018 Ford Focus cars because a previous recall repair may never have actually been installed. According to Ford's records, these vehicles were recorded as successfully completing Safety Recall 18S32 (NHTSA 18V735) — the canister purge valve software remedy — but audits of Ford's service tools found the correct powertrain control module software may not have been applied. As a result, the original defect may still exist: a stuck-open canister purge valve can create excessive vacuum that deforms the fuel tank, and the engine may stall while driving without warning or fail to restart, increasing the risk of a crash. Warning signs include an illuminated check engine light, inaccurate fuel gauge or distance-to-empty readings, and drivability concerns. Dealers will update the PCM software and validate the installation before the repair is closed, free of charge, under NHTSA Campaign ID 26V369 (Ford recall 26S40).
