ATEQ explores the primary function of tire pressure monitoring systems.

What's TPMS? Let's explore.

Since 2008, the Tread Act requires all passenger vehicles in the United States to have Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems or TPMS. Many European and Asian countries also have passed TPMS laws. The primary function of TPMS is to make the driver aware of the state of tire pressure within the wheels. Under normal system operations, the TPMS system will alert the driver when one or more affect tires falls below 25 percent of what is listed on a vehicle's placard. When a tire sensor indicates low tire pressure, it sends a radio frequency signal to the ECU on the vehicle, which determines if the pressure is below the threshold, then a TPMS symbol or display depending on a vehicle.
