Manufactured with high-strength carbon steel, the unique design features an Acme threaded rod that is tougher, thicker and steeper than standard threads, says Snap-on, allowing expansion with fewer ratchet swings. Other caliper spreaders on the market use hand cranking mechanisms or pistol-type grips that rely on user strength to drive plates, rather than letting the tool do the work.
