TMC names Front-Line Supervisor of the Year

March 14, 2012
Award goes to Clyde "Mark" McCoy, a shop supervisor for truckload carrier Swift Transportation.

The Technology & Maintenance Council of American Trucking Associations presented its Excellence in Maintenance Supervision Award to Clyde "Mark" McCoy a shop supervisor for truckload carrier Swift Transportation, during TMC's 2012 Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibition, held Feb. 20-23 in Tampa, Fla.

The award recognizes front-line supervisors who have displayed excellence and professionalism in maintenance supervision, both technically and administratively. McCoy supervises 35 technicians at Swift’s Memphis, Tenn., vehicle maintenance facility.

His direct supervisor, Charles Nall, says Mark possesses a number of characteristics that make him an excellent supervisor: outstanding leadership, technical aptitude, positive outlook, diligent work ethic, and a willingness to embrace new ideas. But what sets him apart is his obvious dedication for his corporate team, said Nall, adding, "Mark is a 100 percent company man and expects the same from his employees."

At the Memphis shop, he has helped implement the Six Sigma concept, which has resulted in more efficient workflow procedures, better shop designs, and substantial reductions in downtime and repair completion times.

Candidates for this award were all employed in direct supervision of maintenance technicians and exhibited superior performance in equipment maintenance supervision. Higher levels of management are not eligible for the award.

Any company interested in submitting a nominee for next year's TMC "Excellence in Maintenance Supervision Award" should submit to TMC staff a brief essay (500 words) on why the nominee should be selected. Copies of supporting documentation such as certifications, commendation letters, awards, etc. may be submitted with the nominating essay. A special panel of TMC leaders selects award winners each year.

Nominations should be submitted to: TMC Selection Panel, Excellence in Maintenance Supervision Awards, c/o: Technology & Maintenance Council, American Trucking Associations, 950 N. Glebe Road, Arlington, VA 22203.
