Police believe money is related to criminal activity.

Police recovered nearly $300,000 from a vehicle after a traffic stop in Ga., and suspect it to be proceeds from criminal activity.

According to a Hogansville Police Department press release, Sgt. Raymond Gates conducted a traffic stop on a green tractor trailer being driven by Samuel Cuellar, a 62-year-old male from Texas, as it was entering the Interstate 85 South ramp from in Hogansville for a minor traffic violation. Gates began his investigation and determined that Cuellar was not the registered owner of the vehicle and noticed indicators of suspicious behavior from the driver.

Cuellar gave Gates consent to search the vehicle where Gates located two bags of money containing $297,520 hidden in the cab of the truck. Cuellar and other occupants of the vehicle denied any knowledge of the money.

No drugs or illegal items were found inside the vehicle and Cuellar was released from the scene. The money was seized and is awaiting forfeiture as the case remains under investigation.
