Cleaire Advanced Emission Controls announced the California Air Resources Board (CARB) has verified the LongMile diesel particulate filter as Level 3+ for on-road applications. The CARB Level 3+ designation means the LongMile has successfully demonstrated diesel particulate matter (PM) emission reductions of greater than 85 percent while meeting the NO2 emission standard.

The LongMile has passed stringent performance and reliability testing and is compliant with CARB verification requirements which are also recognized by the US EPA.

“This highly anticipated milestone for LongMile demonstrates Cleaire’s on-going commitment to developing innovative, reliable and cost-effective diesel particulate filter (DPF) technology for the vast majority of pre-2007 diesel engines,” said Gale Plummer, CEO. “Rather than prematurely replace good equipment to comply with regulations and clean air initiatives, retrofitting with a DPF enables vehicle and fleet managers to achieve 2007/2010 PM emission levels at a much lower cost.”

Effective October 18, 2010, this CARB verification allows the LongMile to be installed on 1993 through 2006 model year engines from 5.3L to 16L. The verification also makes the LongMile eligible for government financial incentive programs used to meet regulatory requirements such as the CARB Fleet Rules and New York Local Laws.

“Based on a unique sintered metal material that is exclusively available to Cleaire, the LongMile provides the highest level of particulate matter reduction, but at about half the exhaust backpressure of a conventional filter,” said Brad Edgar, President and Chief Technical Officer. “This low restriction design is ideally suited for diesel engines utilizing exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology, which can be especially sensitive to exhaust backpressure.”

Additionally, the LongMile’s passive regeneration system, compact size and state of the art monitoring system make it an excellent candidate for retrofitting a very broad range of trucks and buses.
