No crank, lights flashing, whining noises! Where to start? This is what a SureTrack community member experienced when a 2010 Ford Pickup F250 Super Duty 6.4L came to his shop that wouldn’t start and was making noise. With the help of another fellow community member, they were able to resolve the issue.
So what was the issue specifically? The customer was complaining the truck was not cranking, the theft light was on; there was beeping in the cab that got faster until the alarm went off; and there was a high pitched whining under the hood with the keys-off-engine-off (KOEO). Additionally, the car was having difficulty communicating with the brake control module and instrument panel. Here’s what happened.
The Diagnosis
The technician checked the module with the scanner and tried different keys with no luck. After taking the long way around and finding that the Powertrain Control Module wasn’t communicating as well, the technician finally figured out that the ABS module was the common “non-communicator.” Unplugged, the Anti-lock Breaking System module and everything went back to communicating, and the truck now runs. When he pulled out the plug, two terminals were actually melted and had come out with the plug.
The Fix
To fix this issue, the technician replaced the ABS module and repaired the terminals and connector. Now this customer’s 2010 Ford Pickup F250 is cranking and clear of security system issues.
