Wisconsin-based multi-route Mac Tools distributor Pete Kern holds himself - and his drivers - to high moral standards.
"Do not lie to any of your customers," Kern tells them. "That is the first rule on any of my trucks. [If] I catch you lying, you're done. I don't tolerate it, I will not put up with it. You don't have to [lie to] people to make money at Mac Tools."
Kern notes this as one of the reasons his drivers are all diamond tier distributors.
"That’s why my drivers are more successful than any other new start," he says. "Because when they get in their trucks, they know exactly what’s going on. They know exactly what I expect, and they know how to treat people."
Kern attributes his own success to his open and honest nature when dealing with customers.
"Honesty is going to ... work out in your favor," he says. "That’s why I’ve been very successful in the tool business, because [customers] know where I stand. I’m honest.
"That’s the difference in tool distributors out here: some guys don’t have that mentality - it’s all about them, it’s all about their money," he concludes. "At Mac Tools, we don’t need people like that. We need honest, good, hardworking people to grow this company into what it is.
