Cornwell Tools dealer Junior Roskopf recently updated his truck to a 2016 Model 334 Peterbilt, in an effort to improve business efficiency and his customers' experiences on the truck.
In business for six years, Roskopf owned a repair shop before taking over another dealer’s local route. He puts about 65 hours a week into his business and logs more than 300 miles per week in the Milwaukee metro area.
With the new truck design, Roskopf was able to add a number of customizable storage options, including deeper drawers for storing boxes of disposable gloves, wider gaps between shelving for storing larger items such as blow molded cases and boxes, and slideouts for more storage area while taking up a smaller footprint on the truck.
Instead of a laptop, Roskopf utilizes a Microsoft Surface Pro at his workstation. He also stresses the importance of taking thorough notes for all customer interactions, so he can track special orders and payments. He keeps these notes on a detailed customer sheet that he prints daily.
Roskopf’s girlfriend, Crystal, who has a full-time job at a retail business, has helped Roskopf with merchandising his truck, which includes having price tags on all truck inventory.
“It helps with having things priced, because if you have more than one or two people on the truck, as dealers this is a little cheat sheet for us,” says Roskopf. He explains that depending on how the price tag is marked, he can determine the amount of flexibility he has with offering a discount on the product.
For this new truck design, Roskopf wanted to thank Todd Roskopf from JX Peterbilt in Waukesha, and Laura Nederbragt from Summit BodyWorks. “Todd helped me pick out the right chassis, and Laura helped with the upfit.”
