Today’s technicians are likely to buy fuel injectors and engine management parts from the OEM dealer, but the aftermarket holds distinct advantages in several product categories.

Today’s technicians are most likely to buy parts from auto parts retailers, jobbers and warehouse distributors for most categories, according to the Aftermarket Business World Technician Attitude Study. But OEM dealerships hold a slight advantage, at 63 percent, for OE engine management sensor, vs. 54 percent for auto parts retailers, and 46 percent for warehouse distributors.

Some segments, such as brakes, handily beat dealerships, with auto parts retailers commanding 68 percent and 32 percent of technicians responding they use dealerships for those parts.

Methodology: The Aftermarket Business World 2022 Technician Attitude Study was fielded to readers of sister publication Motor Age via email. Study results are intended to show general industry trends, not statistical certainties.
