DENSO names new director of engineering

DENSO named Mike Guidry as its new director of engineering. His responsibilities include overseeing all engineering development of DENSO’s aftermarket light- and heavy-duty automotive products.

DENSO Products and Services Americas, an affiliate of leading global automotive supplier DENSO Corp., has named Michael “Mike” Guidry as its new director of engineering. His responsibilities include overseeing all engineering development of DENSO’s aftermarket light- and heavy-duty automotive products.

Guidry comes to DENSO with more than two decades of management and engineering experience in the automotive and aviation industries. His areas of expertise include concept-to-launch product development of power electronics, motor controls, sensors and feedback, hardware, software and embedded systems. His pioneering work has earned him more than 20 patents issued or pending.

Additionally, Guidry’s leadership experience includes budget and resource management, staffing and team building, market research and customer support, and technology development and intellectual property planning.

“Mike has both the executive and engineering skill sets needed to coordinate the development and improvement of our products to meet our customers’ needs and advance our industry,” said Richard Shiozaki, senior vice president of DENSO Products and Services Americas. “With his proven track record as a strong leader and astute innovator, Mike is a notable addition to the DENSO team.”

Guidry launched his career in 1995 as an electrical engineer in the automotive division of Aura Systems, Inc., an electromagnetic technology developer based in El Segundo, Calif. In 1999, he joined Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., in Cypress, Calif., where he was a project engineer in the Research & Development and New Business Planning groups. There, his many responsibilities included serving as project leader of advanced clean energy vehicle prototypes, overseeing related research and technology, and analyzing new markets.

In 2005, Guidry joined the Advanced Engineering System division of Panasonic Avionics Corp. in Lake Forest, Calif., where he was a senior project engineer managing the development of in-flight entertainment systems. In 2007, he moved to Honeywell Transportation Systems in Torrance, Calif., where he started as a principal engineer in the Advanced Technology division and rose to senior manager overseeing the development of electric products, including fuel cell compressors, turbochargers, controllers, and motors and generators. 

Guidry has a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from San Jose State University. He is a member of the SAE International, formerly known as the Society of Automotive Engineers, and IEEE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Over the course of his career, he has traveled extensively throughout the Americas, Asia and Europe.
