Advanced ride tuning drives success of Monroe OESpectrum shocks, struts

Nov. 4, 2015
By choosing Monroe OESpectrum shocks and struts, many service professionals are providing customers with world-class road handling performance while reducing transmitted noise, vibration and harshness.

A growing number of automotive service providers have discovered that the traditional compromise of control versus comfort might no longer apply when replacing worn shocks and struts on many of today’s passenger vehicles. By choosing the latest Monroe® ride control innovation – OESpectrum® shocks and struts – many service professionals are providing their customers with world-class road handling performance while reducing transmitted noise, vibration and harshness. And in many cases, customers are noticing the difference.

“I used Sensa-Trac® shocks for years, but OESpectrum definitely delivers a noticeable increase in overall ride performance, and in my opinion it outperforms even the OE shocks and struts on many models,” said Danny Malek, owner of Rapid Auto Care in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Monroe OESpectrum shocks and struts utilize an advanced “Active Control” system that doubles the number of internal ride tuning points available in many conventional shocks and struts. Tenneco’s next-generation, OE-inspired Impact Control Valve (ICV), located at the base of each OESpectrum unit, isolates road impacts for exceptional control and helps deliver a better “on-center” feel versus original equipment units.  A second tuning input filters out unwanted noise, vibration and harshness commonly transmitted to the passenger compartment in many driving situations.

Now available for many import and domestic passenger vehicles on the road, Monroe OESpectrum shocks and struts include twin- and monotube designs matched to the design and construction of the vehicle’s original units. The OESpectrum line also includes replacement electronic dampers for select applications as well as replacement cartridges for vehicles equipped with rebuildable strut systems.

“The OESpectrum line reflects our extensive experience as a ride control supplier to global manufacturers of passenger cars, vans, light trucks, SUVs and CUVs,” said John Perrin, director of marketing and engineering, North America Aftermarket, Tenneco. “By choosing OESpectrum, a shop owner or technician can be certain that the shock or strut will help restore the OE-style ride and handling, as each unit is tuned to match the application’s OE-specified driving profile.”

Tenneco is one of the world’s leading producers of mechanical shocks and struts, with more than 94 million pieces supplied annually to global vehicle manufacturers and the replacement market. The company’s leading OE ride control customers include General Motors, Ford, Renault and Daimler AG.
