IHS Automotive, part of IHS Inc., has aligned with Integrate Data Facts, a Michigan-based company focused exclusively on the Mexico vehicle market, to offer a newly compiled Mexico Vehicles-in-Operation (VIO) file that provides a comprehensive look at the country.

Mexico is currently the 11th largest automotive market based on VIO and is growing every year. IHS Automotive forecasts annual new vehicle sales to grow 28 percent between 2013 and 2020 to nearly 1.37 million units, making this even more of a key market for aftermarket companies.

“Fully understanding the VIO across the NAFTA region is an important strategic objective for aftermarket companies,” said Mark Seng, global aftermarket practice leader at IHS Automotive. “We are excited to announce our alliance with IDF, which combines experience and broad data assets from IHS Automotive with IDF’s expertise in the Mexico market to provide our customers with the confidence they need to make the right decisions regarding their business in Mexico.”

“I am proud to team with the global automotive information leader: IHS,” said Evaristo Garcia, president of IDF, “and we very much look forward to continue providing the aftermarket with industry-leading research and intelligence regarding the Mexico vehicle market.”

IHS’s VIO for Mexico provides information for model years 1961-2014. It is fully mapped to ACES and will be mapped to TecDoc by early 2015. It is being launched at the national level, but will be quickly followed by state and municipality levels.

The Mexico data is now available with quarterly updates, making it the most up-to-date information available. With each release, additional details for models years back to 1961, medium and heavy duty vehicle detail, and additional transmission information will be added.

The fastest growing segment of the vehicle population in Mexico is used vehicles being imported from the United States. Until now, aftermarket companies were not able to get details regarding these vehicles, making development of a catalog for replacement parts very difficult.

IHS and IDF are now developing methodology to identify and provide details for these vehicles crossing the border into Mexico. These vehicles will be included as part of the quarterly updates going forward.

In addition to providing VIO for the current vehicles in Mexico, IHS is also developing a new VIO Forecast for Mexico. This will provide aftermarket companies with a five-year outlook, giving them the ability to plan for parts demand in the future.

In 2015, IHS Automotive will be integrating the new Mexico VIO data into its WorldView solution, further enhancing the industry’s most comprehensive online solution that provides a complete look at vehicle markets around the world.
