The Auto Care Association webinar scheduled at 2 p.m. March 13 will focus on the latest developments in the renegotiation process of NAFTA and its potential impact on the auto care industry.
The webinar, “NAFTA Renegotiation Update - Impact on the Auto Care Industry,” will be moderated by Angela Chiang, international affairs, Auto Care Association and will feature a panel of speakers from Dentons’ International Trade practice, including:
Yohai Baisburd – a partner at Dentons’ International Trade practice in Washington, D.C. Baisburd leads the firm's U.S. trade team in matters around the globe.
Paul Lalonde – a partner at Dentons’ in Toronto. Lalonde is widely recognized in Canada as a leading practitioner in international trade, government contracting and anti-corruption law.
Joaquín Contreras – a partner at Dentons’ Mexico City office. Contreras’ practice focuses on ports and maritime law with particular emphasis on petroleum-related projects, customs and foreign trade, automotive regulation and the maquiladora industry.
Negotiators from the U.S., Canada and Mexico concluded the sixth round of negotiations a few weeks ago where Canada introduced a counter proposal to change the current methodology in calculating NAFTA auto rules-of-origin. The U.S. had proposed during a previous negotiating round to raise the rules of origin threshold from 62.2 percent to 85 percent and to add a 50 percent U.S.-content requirement. The seventh round of negotiations is scheduled for late February in Mexico and it’s likely that the auto parts rules-of-origin provisions of NAFTA will likely continue to garner a great deal of attention.
Interested attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A discussion at the end of the webinar to address questions and anticipated NAFTA renegotiation challenges. If you are unable to attend at the scheduled time, please register to receive a recording after the webinar concludes.
