How will autonomous vehicles impact the mainstream?

Karen Cover, social media coordinator for the UBM Americas Automotive Group, wrote a blog “Getting ready for autonomous vehicles.”

One significant challenge facing the adoption of autonomous vehicles is consumer trust in the technology. Other challenges include expensive component prices and a lack of regulations.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said the “absence in clarity of how autonomous vehicles are going to be integrated into the bloodstream of America's transportation system,” is another challenge. Foxx has said that after obstacles are overcome, the integration of autonomous vehicles into the mainstream will occur rapidly.

Scott Luckett, vice president of industry strategy for GCommerce, said autonomous vehicles will be an addition to the vehicle fleet and not a replacement for owner-operated vehicles.
