Pennzoil introduces the industry’s first-of-its-kind full synthetic motor oils made from natural gas: Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum with PurePlus Technology.
Pennzoil® introduces the industry’s first-of-its-kind full synthetic motor oils made from natural gas: Pennzoil Platinum® and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum™ with PurePlus™ Technology. PurePlus Technology is a patented, revolutionary process that converts pure natural gas into high quality full synthetic base oil.
The process of developing motor oils has largely remained unchanged for 40 years since the introduction of Poly-Alfa-Olefin (PAO) base oil. By contrast, PurePlus™ Base Oil formulated from natural gas is crystal clear and contains fewer of the impurities found in crude oil, the traditional base for many other conventional and synthetic motor oils. Compared to traditional API Group II and Group III base oils, PurePlus Base Oil, when combined with Pennzoil Active Cleansing Agents, provides several advantages for motorists, including excellent low-temperature pumpability, enhanced viscosity, reduced friction and volatility performance.
“Pennzoil Platinum motor oils with PurePlus Technology deliver Complete Protection as advanced as today’s cutting edge vehicles,” explains Chris Hayek, global brand director, Shell Lubricants Passenger Car Motor Oil. “By using PurePlus Base Oil in our motor oil line, Pennzoil is addressing the needs for the next generation of technological engine advancements, from tighter tolerance to mixed fuel use and preparation for GF-6 and beyond.”
The Pennzoil Platinum with PurePlus Technology line of motor oils is designed to provide engines with all of the essential qualities of a premium motor oil, without compromising one area for the sake of another. Pennzoil Platinum motor oils with PurePlus Technology offer Complete Protection, which is defined as coverage on five key areas consumers deemed as most critical for motor oil performance: 1) engine cleanliness, 2) fuel economy, 3) conservation of horsepower, 4) wear protection, and 5) performance in extreme temperatures.
“The unique properties of PurePlus Technology offer the opportunity to develop superior lubricants for the most advanced engines, achieving lower viscosities and a greater level of engine cleanliness not possible with lesser base oils,” says Hayek. “Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum with PurePlus Technology are our newest, most advanced motor oils in our more than 100 year history.”
Pennzoil Platinum motor oils with PurePlus Technology meet and exceed key industry standards; ILSAC GF-5 for passenger car engine oils, ACEA European oil sequence for service-fill oils for gasoline and diesel engines and API SN. In addition to the industry and OEM tests conducted based on extensive engine sequence and bench testing of fully formulated engine oils, Pennzoil Platinum motor oils with PurePlus Technology have been subjected to millions of miles of vehicle fleet testing.
