Subject: belt chirp when steering wheel is at full lock with engine RPM at idle.

Affected vehicles: 2010 Jeep Nitro, Liberty, Grand Cherokee and Commander.

This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with the 3.7L engine built before Jan. 16, 2010.

Some customers may experience a belt chirp sound. This sound will be noticeable when the steering wheel is in a full lock condition (right or left) and the engine is at idle. The sound disappears when engine rpm is increased.

Using a scan tool with the appropriate diagnostic procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify that the cooling system is functioning as designed. If DTCs are present, record them and repair as necessary before proceeding further.

Read the part number on the top front face of the drive belt tensioner. If the part number is 53030958AE, further diagnosis is required (inspect for other causes). If the part number is not 53030958AE, replace the tensioner with this part number (P/N 53030958AE is the correct tensioner).
