Aftermarket industry summit Feb. 8 to address telematics, other issues

Annual event to be held in Sacramento, Calif. and is free to industry reprsentatives.

A group of automotive aftermarket industry associations will host the 2014 Automotive Aftermarket Industry Summit on Feb. 8 from 8 a.m. to Noon at the Embassy Suites Sacramento Riverfront Promenade in Sacramento, Calif. The meeting will be in the Central Pacific Ballroom.

Welcoming remarks will be given by Mary Kemnitz, president of the Automotive Service Councils of California (ASCCA) and Ron Aparicio, chair of the board for the California/Nevada/Arizona Automotive Wholesalers' Association (CAWA).

The meeting will include a discussion about telematics and its impact on the industry. John Villa will provide an introduction and facilitate the meeting. Aaron Lowe of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association will moderate. Panelists include Derek Kaufman, a telematics consultant, and Jeff Lagges of ALLDATA. The objective is to provide attendees an understanding of the technical features of telematics and how its use can be applied within the aftermarket.

Following a break, a demonstration of brake pad compliance Website, www.copperfreebrakes.org, will be provided by Lowe.

An update on federal and state legislative issues will be provided by Lowe, Jack Molodanof, ASCCA, Gary Conover, CAWA, Chris Walker of the California Automotive Business Coalition (CalABC) and Bob Barkhosue of California Automotive Teachers (CAT).

The event is free to all industry representatives and will be the fourth year associations have come together to discuss contemporary industry issues affecting all in the chain of distribution. Last year, over 100 attendees heard from experts and engaged in a frank discussion of the impact of issues on their respective industry segments.
