Driver of a 1997 Saturn smashes into a semi-tractor trailer after not obeying a traffic sign.

Two people are dead and four others injured, one critically, in yet another lethal accident on Kalkaska County, Mich. roadways.

Kalkaska County Undersheriff Abe DeVol said the accident occurred Monday when the driver of a 1997 Saturn ran through a stop sign at the intersection of Plum Valley Road and U.S. 131 just after 10 a.m. The Saturn traveled into the path of a semi tractor-trailer headed south on 131.

The resulting collision killed the Saturn's driver, a man, 20, and a female passenger, 47. A third passenger, a 19-year-old male, was critically injured. DeVol said all three are from Livonia.

"The semi tractor-trailer (driver) then lost control of the truck and struck a northbound 2004 Chrysler mini-van," Devol said.

The male driver of the van, 59, of Traverse City, and a 62-year-old female passenger from Burt Lake were injured. They were each listed in stable condition Monday night at Munson Medical Center.

The driver of the semi-tractor trailer is a Gaylord man, 48.

He suffered minor injuries.

None of the victims' names were immediately released.

The crash is the third deadly collision in Kalkaska County in recent months. Stormi Ann Elkins, 15, died early July 5 when a vehicle she was driving left Ingersoll Road on a curve just east of Deibert Road in the county.

In April, a two-vehicle collision that involved the Grayling High School golf team killed three. The accident unfolded at the intersection of Crawford Lake Road and County Road 612.
