A June POWERTRAIN PRO Newsletter entitled “Adding up Pump and Input Shaft Usage” covered parts transitions that took place with the 4L60-E transmission when an Input Shaft Speed Sensor was added.

By July 2005, the pump, stator support and turbine shaft received most of the modifications needed to use the ISS. All that was missing was drilling the hole through the pump to receive the sensor and to add the rotor teeth (reluctor) on the turbine shaft. The specific casting number for this pump is 24230672.

Due to shortages of pumps that use the ISS, VB Cleaning Tools (vbcleaningtools.com) has developed a machining process which drills the pump cover to accept the sensor. You can send this pump in to them for modifications.

This machining process only drills out the pump cover not the pressed in stator support. Most of the covers with the 24230672 number come with a stator support that has a hole in it for the sensor. However, some earlier versions did not so it will need to be replaced with one that does. You can do it or VB Cleaning Tools can do it for you.
