Q: How can technicians connect to, and receive information from, an ECU if they don’t know how to locate or identify it?

A: JPRO provides complete vehicle component visibility, even when technicians do not have access to the manufacturer’s vehicle specifications. Using the advanced capabilities of JPRO, it is no longer necessary for technicians to crawl around a truck looking for ECUs, nor is it necessary to be able to quickly identify brands, makes, models, or any sub identifiers of ECUs. Think about it... How many technicians could identify “MX,” but that’s it? He or she could look at the truck and see an engine branded “PACCAR,” but beyond that there is no marker; even the ECU only tells us that the model is “MX” and that’s the only visible information. Upon connecting to the vehicle, JPRO quickly receives all the information the technician cannot see, such as whether that engine is an EPA ’10 or ’13.

To use another example, a technician crawls under a vehicle and recognizes it has an Eaton automatic transmission, but which one? With access to the correct manual, and pictures or understandable tag information on the unit, the technician could slowly determine which model it is. Rather than wasting all the time required to properly determine component models, JPRO can identify, read, and diagnose every ECU, often in less than ninety seconds. With the number of ECUs on a vehicle growing each year, the necessity for rapid identification and diagnostics becomes increasingly important to maintain a manageable bay turn rate. Rather than relying on physical manuals and multiple OEM software packages, JPRO can replace and expedite the identification, diagnosis, and repair processes.
