Tech Tip: Lifts and your 'safe' shop

July 14, 2016
A successful shop is a safe shop, and that begins by establishing a permanent, positive culture of safety.

A successful shop is a safe shop, and that begins by establishing a permanent, positive culture of safety in your facility. Service bulletins and safety messages should be prominently posted in public places and, in the instance of vehicle lifts, operators should be trained and re-trained on a regular basis. Equally important, make certain that all vehicle lifts are subject to a regular program of planned maintenance in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommended schedule. Then, schedule each lift in your facility for an annual lift inspection by an ALI-certified lift inspector. Why? Costs from personal injury and shop down time are front line concerns for all shop supervisors.  So, only purchase and use ALI-certified vehicle lifts – the safety “gold standard” in our industry.
