NHTSA issues recall for 2020-21 GMC Savana and Chevrolet Express

March 31, 2021
NHTSA advises that owners of select GM and Chevrolet vehicles should park their vehicles outside until they are repaired.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a new recall that shop owners can make their customers aware of.

Owners of select GM and Chevrolet vehicles listed below should park their vehicles outside and away from homes, structures, and other flammable materials such as vegetation, until their vehicles have been repaired, due to a new recall for the risk of fire.

Positive battery cable short circuit

GM issued a safety recall (NHTSA ID 21V-189) today for certain Model Year 2020 and 2021 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vehicles with 6.6L gas engines. If a short circuit does occur, drivers may get a low battery voltage warning, the battery may die, or a fire may occur in the engine compartment.

Until these recalled vehicles have been repaired, the safest place to park them is outside and away from homes and other structures.

Vehicle owners can visit NHTSA.gov/recalls and enter their 17-digit vehicle identification number to see if their vehicle is under recall. If it is, vehicle owners should call their nearest dealership immediately to schedule a free repair.

Owners can also download NHTSA’s new SaferCar app for Apple or Android. Enter the vehicle, tires, car seat, or other vehicle equipment, and the app will push a notification if a recall is issued.
