On May 29, 2014, the Automotive Service Association (ASA) Mechanical Division leaders traveled to Capitol Hill to meet with key members of Congress and their staff to discuss the importance of periodic motor vehicle inspections (PMVI).
ASA says its members recounted personal stories from their home states, emphasizing the value and necessity of periodic safety inspections. ASA encouraged Congress to work with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in an effort to promote state PMVI programs.
The group also spoke briefly about telematics, requesting that Congress hold off on legislation for new vehicle technologies until the repair industry determines its legislative needs, if any. ASA leaders enjoyed a largely positive response and are looking forward to continuing to work with Congress to promote automotive safety.
