Has CDT control system

Stellar Industries, a manufacturer of hydraulic truck mounted equipment, has introduced its new model 5521 telescopic service crane to replace its model 5520.

The 5521, a Stellar first in this size of crane, offers a maximum 5,000-pound capacity and a maximum reach of 21 feet. The crane can lift up to 5,000 pounds at 5 feet 9 inches in boost mode and features the exclusive Stellar CDT (Crane Dynamics Technology) control system.

The 29,500 ft lb crane offers two options: one hydraulic/one manual extension version, and the all-new two hydraulic extension version.

The new design has also allowed for all the extension cylinders to be located inside the boom for added protection and a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Officials said the 5521 also has other industry leading features, including as a hexagonal boom design for reduced flex and increased strength, and a variable speed, multifunction radio remote control equipped with the Stellar CDT system as a standard feature.

The Stellar CDT control system incorporates two-way communications and a feedback feature that is first in the mechanics crane market to offer integral capacity alert incorporated into the handheld controller, they said. The system will indicate to the operator when the load being maneuvered is increasing the load moment of the crane.

Indications are by visual and sensory signals built into the Stellar handheld controller using color-coded LED lights and varying cyclical vibrations.

The CDT system can allow operators who exceed standard capacity to productively operate through that situation by increasing crane capacity to 118 percent of its normal operating capacity for a short period of time.

The 5521 also features a refined safety system. If a capacity monitoring device fails to operate correctly the crane will enter the safe mode, allowing operation of the crane at a reduced speed until the safety device is repaired, replaced or returned to proper working order.
