Former Hein-Werner CEO dies

Joseph L. Dindorf, former president and CEO of the Hein-Werner Corporation, passed away Wednesday, October 8. He was 73.

Dindorf was president and CEO of Hein-Werner for 23 years. Hein-Werner’s collision repair brands included Blackhawk and Kansas Jack frame equipment. In 1998, Hein-Werner, based in Waukesha, Wis. was acquired by Snap-on.

Dindorf was active in the Equipment & Tool Institute about the time I started as a volunteer.  I remember that he was instrumental in starting what was then called Japan Tech Week and is now known as Winter Tech Week.  He made several trips to Japan to secure the event which now has had a successful run of 27 years.  He served as the President of ETI's Board of Directors in 1993.

Joe was a very good businessman who completely understood the value of serving not only the company he ran, but the entire automotive repair industry his company was part of.
