The Busy Bays Podcast recently featured Jay Goninen, Founder and CEO of Find a Wrench, as a guest to talk through how auto repair shop owners can achieve more success in their recruiting efforts.

It’s no secret that recruiting technicians is the biggest challenge that most auto repair shops face these days. The Busy Bays Podcast recently featured Jay Goninen, Founder and CEO of Find a Wrench, as a guest to talk through how auto repair shop owners can achieve more success in their recruiting efforts.

Hiring technicians isn’t what it used to be 20 years ago and Jay gave us some advice that can change how shops recruit and hire technicians.

Finding a candidate, let alone one that fits with your shop’s culture can be very difficult. According to Goninen, the best solution is playing the long game in recruiting. Building relationships and recruiting even when you have a full team can lead to a better and quicker hire when the time comes.

Goninen shared three key pieces of advice for shop owners and managers to tackle recruitment and hiring.

  1. Always have a plan – cast your net and cast it wide when recruiting and hiring techs.
  2. Understand why your shop is different from the rest and be specific about it.
  3. Respond quickly – you should be responding to applicants within 24 hours of receiving their information.  The longer you wait, the less likely they will return your call.

Goninen stressed one thing throughout the interview; if you are a manager or shop owner don’t let up on the gas when you’re comfortable or when you have a full team of techs – always be recruiting.

The points highlighted here are just a small representation of all the great insight and advice that was discussed.  To hear the full interview on Recruiting and Employing Technicians with Find a Wrench CEO Jay Goninen listen to the podcast here – https://www.repairshopwebsites.com/resource-center/repair-shop-podcast/#27 or on your favorite podcast platform.
