NASTF Secure Data Release Model exhibits at ASRW

SDRM allows aftermarket industry access to security sensitive information related to automobiles.

Representatives from the National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF) Secure Data Release Model (SDRM) will exhibit at Automotive Service and Repair Week (ASRW) in booth #N1445.

The SDRM is a data exchange system conceived and designed cooperatively by automakers, the independent repair community, and the insurance and law enforcement communities. It allows the aftermarket to access security sensitive information related to automobiles (i.e. key codes, PIN numbers, immobilizer reset information, and similar types of security information) and theft related parts while protecting the safety and security of consumers and the integrity of automobile security systems.

The NASTF SDRM Registry database consists of automotive service/security professionals who have cleared an application and background screening process. Security-related transactions are validated against the Registry and are fulfilled once the requestor's security credential is confirmed. OEM website subscribers who want to obtain security-related information are encouraged to join the Registry.

The SDRM Registry provides: 1) Consumer choice by ensuring that vehicle owners' can choose qualified aftermarket service providers who have access to security-related information, tools and components; 2) Control of security-related information and tools by the automaker and the consumer; 3) Improved indemnity for automakers from legal actions resulting from the unauthorized use, misuse, or illegal use of any security-related information. The SDRM Registry ensures that responsibility for governance of independent repairers falls on the independent aftermarket service industry, not automakers.

As a stakeholder in NASTF, ASA hosts and administers the promotion, recruitment, application, enrollment, background screening process, user and website support of the SDRM Registry.
