In Focus: Delphi MAF Sensor Probe

Aug. 23, 2011

Delphi’s Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor Probe, No. AF10058, is a greener option to the traditional MAF assembly repair. Instead of replacing the entire MAF sensor including the plastic housing, Delphi developed a repair alternative where the technician “unlocks” the sensor probe from the housing unit and replaces it with a new one with a “key” included with every replacement sensor.

Origin

In most cases it’s unnecessary to replace the complete MAF assembly part since the primary functions are contained within the probe. Replacing the probe will correct more than 98 percent of diagnosed MAF problems. Developed by its aftermarket engineers, Delphi launched the AF10058 as an alternative to the traditional repair.

Feature and benefits

Technician Benefit: Delphi‘s sensor-only alternative allows the technician to focus on the part needing replacement. By eliminating the need to replace the plastic housing, Delphi is providing a greener, twenty percent more cost-effective approach to repair.

Distributor Benefit: The AF10058 fits almost eight million 2002 – 2008 General Motors and Hyundai passenger car, and light truck applications. The MAF sensor probe combines six OE Service MAF sensor SKUs into one Delphi MAF sensor probe for reduced inventory dollar investment and wider coverage.

Selling points

Environmentally-friendly: No need to replace the entire housing assembly, just the probe, making it 20 percent greener than the traditional repair.

Less inventory/SKU management: Stock one Delphi part to fit almost 8 million passenger car and light truck applications, including import and domestic late-model vehicles. AF10058 combines six OE Service MAF sensor SKUs into one Delphi MAF sensor probe for reduced inventory management. The dealer and our competitors require six SKUs.

OE Parts: AF10058 is not remanufactured. It is an OE part manufactured new by Delphi. This ensures a correct ECM interface and exact OE performance.

The clamshell package that surrounds the sensor probe is specifically designed to protect the probe sensing elements from environmental damage, as well as any possible shipping damages. The plastic key is included in the package, embedded on one side to aid in the removal of the original probe from the plastic flow tube.

It is critical when removing the sensor from the packaging to not touch the electronics, as this may damage the sensor probe.
