U.S. government to offer $4.5 million to support alternative fuel vehicles

The U.S. government will offer as much as $4.5 million in funding for ideas and projects to help increase the widespread acceptance of alternative fuel vehicles.

The U.S. government will offer as much as $4.5 million in funding for ideas and projects to help increase the widespread acceptance of alternative fuel vehicles, according to a recent article on The Green Car Website.

The offer falls under the government's Clean Cities program, and the funding will support efforts under three categories: AFV demonstration projects; AFV safety-related training for first responders and the emergency preparedness. According to the article, ideas that promote fully electric, plug-in hybrids, ethanol, propane, natural gas or flex-fuel models are all eligible for funding. 

Somewhere between seven and 15 awards are expected to be bestowed, and they will range between $250,000 and $1 million.
