Tom Bosler – director of product planning, driveshafts, for Dana Corporation – discusses vehicle efficiency.

Many techniques are being used to get increased operating efficiencies out of heavy duty trucks. So says Tom Bosler, director of product planning, driveshafts, for Dana Corporation.

It is a world leader in the supply of highly engineered drivetrain, sealing and thermal-management technologies that improve the efficiency and performance of vehicles with both conventional and alternative-energy powertrains.

While downspeeding results in fuel savings, it drives additional torque into the powertrain, and that must be addressed.

With downspeeding, proper spec’ing is essential.

One of the things that suppliers are doing to handle the additional driveline torque is increasing component strength.

Dana’s Bosler emphasizes the importance of understanding two key things when spec’ing a downsped truck.
