Ask the Expert: What does a P1000 DTC code mean for a technician?

April 19, 2019
The code can indicate that underlying issues with the vehicle still remain.

P1000 is a manufacturer-specific trouble code. It can be triggered on Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, and Jaguar vehicles during the repair process and means that OBD-II monitor testing is not complete. It has a similar meaning for Mazda, which is OBD-II drive cycle malfunction.

The code can indicate that underlying issues with the vehicle still remain and signifies the importance of post-scan before returning vehicles to customers. Since the P1000 does not set a check engine light, technicians don't know if it's been triggered on the vehicle without running a post-scan.

To identify P1000 issues using a Bosch ADS 325 and ADS 625 scan tool:

• Make sure you have identified the vehicle with one-touch Auto ID

• Select engine controller

• Go to Diagnostic Information tab

• Click on Drivecycle Information and follow the steps from there
