The University of the Aftermarket Foundation has renewed its support of the Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS) in 2011, donating $50,000 toward the successful GAAS scholarship program.
“We welcome and appreciate the generous donation from the University of the Aftermarket Foundation. We will be sure to put the funds to good use,” said Pete Kornafel, chairman of the GAAS selection committee. “This year we have received a record number of scholarship applications, up 40 percent over last year, and I can tell you there are a lot of very impressive applicants who will be entering our industry.”
The donation from the University of the Aftermarket Foundation will be used to help 30 aspiring technicians take the first step into the aftermarket by funding vocational school scholarships. In addition, matching grants will be funded for young technicians who have worked in the industry for at least six months.
“We are very pleased to support the GAAS scholarship program and advance our common goal of making education more readily available,” said Rusty Bishop, chairman of the University of the Aftermarket Foundation. “It is very encouraging to see the number of quality candidates who are interested in becoming technicians; it bodes well for the future of the aftermarket.”
