Training programs are judged by a panel on how well they address critical components.

The ASE Training Managers Council (ATMC) announced the 2018 winners of the ATMC National Excellence in Training Awards, naming the submission by Motor Coach Industries as the Grand Award winner, with awards also going to Bridgestone Retail Operations and to Shell Oil Company.

Winning the Grand Award for the second year in a row, Motor Coach Industries came out on top with a program submitted by their Technical Training Manager, Scott Crawford, titled "MCI Academy ELECT 401." The 401 class is the fourth of a four-part training program on the electrical systems that exist in motor coaches. The MCI course of study provides training starting with the basics and progressing through advanced troubleshooting of the latest Multiplex system while incorporating all the best practices for development and delivery of training.

Bridgestone Retail Operations earned an award for "BSRO Tech Foundation Workshop," a program developed by Bridgestone Retail Operations and delivered by NAPA Autotech personnel. The "Workshop" is an extensive onboarding and training program that provides new hire technicians and service advisors with instruction on how to conduct retail service operations, with about 65% of the program consisting of hands-on learning. This program was submitted by Glenn Dahl, BSRO Manager – Technical Development.

Another award goes to Shell Oil Company for their training program, "Shell Workshop Academy," submitted by Ken Barber, Manager Learning and Development. This program covers all subject areas that a workshop (service center) needs to operate efficiently and profitably, including both soft skills and technical skills. It features an innovative combination of e-learning with on-the-job training.

All submissions are judged by a panel of peers on how the program addresses critical components that comprise a well-structured training program. A mean average of all judges' scores is used to determine the winners.

The annual ATMC National Excellence in Training Awards shine a spotlight on highly effective or innovative training programs and emphasize the importance of training to the success of the transportation industry. The award winners will be honored at the ATMC reception during Industry Week in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Venetian Hotel-Sands Expo Center, Casanova Rooms 604-605 on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, 5 to 7:00 pm. All with an interest in training are welcome to attend.
