Car Care Council Women's Board raises record amount for 2013 scholarships

Scholarships support women's careers in automotive aftermarket.

The Car Care Council Women’s Board (WB) raised more than $5000 in its first-ever silent auction during the 2013 Women’s Board winter meeting, held Feb. 6-7 at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Fla. Items for the auction were donated by WB associate companies and aftermarket supporters, and all proceeds will go to the WB scholarship fund, allowing the WB to award a record number of scholarships in 2013.

“A key objective of the WB is to support and encourage women pursuing a career in the automotive aftermarket. What better way are we able to do this than through the WB scholarship fund?” said Ruth Ehlinger, WB president. “We could not be more excited with the results achieved at our first-ever silent auction and we thank every individual and organization that contributed to its success.”

The Women’s Board will be giving away six scholarships to female students studying to enter the automotive aftermarket -- three to postsecondary students and three to high school students. The Becky Babcox Women’s Board scholarship recipient, a postsecondary student, will receive $5000, and a trip to the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) in Las Vegas, Nev. An additional postsecondary student will receive $2500, and another will receive $2000. The top high school senior recipient will receive $3000, and two others will receive $1500 and $1000, respectively.

Other highlights of the day and a half meeting included an association panel, an overview of new vehicle technology and 2012 automotive industry insights, along with networking opportunities and committee meetings. The 35 attendees also received .4 CEU credits.
