Drivewyze launches safety data reporting service

Monthly reports provide customers with safety and violation information that can inform business decisions.

Drivewyze, provider of PreClear weigh station bypass services, has launched Drivewyze Insights -- a data-driven safety reporting service. The monthly reports provide Drivewyze customers with safety and violation information that can inform safety and operational business decisions.

“Drivewyze Insights was developed in collaboration with our customers,” said Brian Heath, president and CEO of Drivewyze. “It’s what they’ve asked for, and it’s the first piece in what will become an ongoing value-add service to provide business intelligence on relevant safety and operational data that can help make fleets safer, and more successful.”

With Drivewyze’s PreClear service, customers receive weigh station bypasses based on a variety of factors, including safety scores.

“Safety scores are driven by crash and inspection data," Heath said. "A lot of carriers focus on crash data, but inspection data is a significant driver of a carrier’s safety scores. Unfortunately, it is not easy for fleets to track inspection data for trends and insights without having to build their own tools for analysis and reporting. We are changing that. With Drivewyze Insights, we do the work for you. Insights collects inspection and violation source data across all 50 states as much as three or four weeks earlier than its available through FMCSA’s Safety Measurement Portal. The data is then compiled and analyzed into actionable intelligence for our fleet customers.”

According to Heath, carrier data from FMCSA is compiled and presented in an easy-to-view format. Highlights provide answers to commonly asked questions like a fleet’s updated ISS score, the total number of inspections and violations during a reporting period, and inspection heat maps by geographical area including top inspection areas by county.

“We feel that county-level reporting is an important component to improved compliance,” said Heath. “It helps carriers better understand some of the core drivers behind their safety scores and to match compliance-related trends to regional fleet performance. It provides our customers with better information on how to address the root cause of their violations.”

Drivewzye Insights provides additional information beyond the top location clusters of violations by informing managers of the top violation types encountered in these high violation areas.

“Each category shows the number of infractions and weightings by the severity score. We then compare that score to a fleet’s peer group. So, if a carrier is running 500 trucks for example, the fleet manager can tell if their violation rate is better or worse than their peer group across multiple categories. This benchmarking provides granular insights into a fleet’s safety and compliance performance compared to other similarly-sized fleets in the industry.

"Benchmarking allows fleet managers to focus on areas needing attention and to adopt industry best practices for improving performance. It’s a tremendous compliance management tool and not available anywhere else. Ultimately, we’re providing value-added information that helps our customers to take action and maintain a safer and more productive fleet. We go beyond data to provide actionable intelligence that informs driver training and maintenance practices and other activities like outreach and coordination with local law enforcement. The goal is to better enable our customers to improve their safety and regulatory compliance performance," Heath said.

The Insights report will be provided in addition to Drivewyze’s existing monthly Bypass service report.

“Customers have chosen to work with Drivewyze not only because we offer the largest bypass network in North America, but also because our next generation connected truck platform offers a rich source of data from which to gather business intelligence," Heath said. "We want to provide our customers with not only full transparency on the value of our bypass service, but to help them better understand how to convert their safety and compliance investments into keeping their trucks and freight moving efficiently."
