Hobart has announced the availability of its Hobart Filler Metal Selector and Calculator for Android devices via a free download at the Google Play Store. The app was previously available only for iPhone and iPad in the App Store.

Both versions of the app provide a quick reference with multiple functions to help users calculate the amount and type of filler metal necessary to complete a job. To determine filler metal volume, users simply select the type of weld joint, enter its dimensions using either Standard (SAE) or metric units, and provide total weld length, material and transfer modes. The result is a recommendation for the amount of filler metal needed in pounds or kilograms. The app also provides recommendations for Hobart filler metals — stick electrodes; solid, flux-cored and metal cored wires; and TIG cut-lengths — to weld aluminum, carbon steel and stainless steel.

Additional features include a heat input calculator that determines the heat input for a given application based on voltage, amperage and travel speed variables, and a hardfacing product cross reference function. This latter function helps users find the Hobart equivalent to competitive hardfacing products in the marketplace.
