New Prestone Command Family of Heavy Duty Antifreeze/Coolants introduced

Developed to perform in the most extreme hot or cold operating conditions.

Prestone Products Corporation, a leading manufacturer of antifreeze/coolant, cooling system flush/cleaners and other performance chemicals for the North American vehicle market, used the occasion of last week's Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week (HDAW) - the largest North American gathering of the independent heavy duty industry - to introduce new Prestone Command Heavy Duty Antifreeze/Coolant products.

These new products "are the latest innovations that Prestone is offering to the North American heavy duty vehicle market," said Greg Noethlich, president of Prestone. "Prestone Command takes the specific needs of the heavy duty fleet operator into account and delivers 'Anywhere. Anytime. Any Engine' protection that helps to prolong engine life."

Prestone developed its patented Prestone Command as an advanced antifreeze/coolant technology that "will revolutionize the world of engine protection, no matter the weather conditions," he said.

Two formulations

Prestone Command is available in two different formulations:

  • Heavy Duty Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant provides 600,000-mile/12,000-hour CAT EC-1 service life protection for any diesel-powered heavy duty engine. Its patented formula which uses premium, long-lasting inhibitors, protects aluminum and all other engine metals against temperature extremes, rust, corrosion, scale and water-pump failure, and is compatible with any other heavy-duty antifreeze/coolant.

Other features include: Compatibility with any heavy-duty antifreeze/coolant; and a prediluted 50/50 formulation is available for convenient top-off applications.

  • Heavy Duty Extended Service Antifreeze/Coolant is SCA (Supplemental Coolant Additive) pre-charged and provides advanced protection from freezing, overheating, cavitation erosion, corrosion, scale and foaming in any heavy duty engine with or without need-release filter technology that operates in normal to severe duty cycles and extreme temperature conditions.

Other features include: Advanced corrosion technology; compatibility with any conventional heavy duty coolants; no need for SCAs in the initial fill; and a prediluted 50/50 antifreeze/coolant formulation and demineralized water dilution available for top-off applications.

DEF

In addition to its new antifreeze/coolant products, Prestone also launched its Preston Command Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), a liquid reducing agent developed for use in all diesel engines that are equipped with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system.

SCR is an emission-control technology that injects a precise amount of DEF into a diesel-powered vehicle's exhaust stream, which in turn converts any nitrogen oxide (NOx) that is present into harmless nitrogen and water vapor that is subsequently released safely into the atmosphere.

Prestone Command DEF is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic and non-flammable liquid solution consisting of 67.5 percent demineralized water and 32.5 percent high-quality, automotive-grade urea, said Preston officials. It meets all API and ISO 2224-1 manufacturing specifications.

DEF will corrode certain metals, such as aluminum, copper and brass, so it must be used and stored with dispensing equipment and tanks that are made of stainless steel or high-density polypropylene, they noted.

Prestone Command DEF is available in 1- and 2.5-gallon (3.78- and 9.45-liter) containers, as well as 55-gallon (208.2 liter) drums and 330-gallon (1,249.19 liter) totes.

This is the first DEF launched by Prestone.
