Volvo works to improve uptime services with expanded diagnostic capabilities

Volvo Trucks North America has expanded its partnered services to maximize uptime by providing more detailed diagnostics on truck components, allowing customers to make more rapid repair decisions. Volvo’s ASIST, a web-based service communication platform developed by Decisiv, now integrates with Truck Diagnostics System (TDS), a JPRO-based diagnostics software solution provided by Volvo partner Noregon Systems.

The integration of TDS and ASIST complements Volvo’s Remote Diagnostics telematics-based proactive diagnostic and repair planning system, which also works through ASIST. Remote Diagnostics monitors in real time critical fault codes in the engine, aftertreatment system and the Volvo I-Shift automated manual transmission, identifying necessary parts and providing repair instructions even before the truck arrives for service. Once at the dealership, TDS can also help diagnose all vendor components.

“We are committed to keeping customers’ trucks moving, and doing so requires that we know as much about the trucks as possible as quickly as possible,” said Gӧran Nyberg, president of Volvo Trucks North America. “Along with our strong dealer network and dedicated aftermarket support team, the integration of TDS and ASIST will help our customers make better decisions regarding their trucks, drivers and loads.”

The new integration speeds up check-in and inspection at dealerships. With TDS, the dealer service advisor can now perform a quick diagnosis letting the customer know whether the repair is basic or will require more extensive diagnostics and repair time. The quick diagnostics test opens a case in ASIST, allowing for streamlined communications and complete repair documentation. If a fault relates to an open Remote Diagnostics case in ASIST, the data from TDS automatically appends to it.

Volvo manages customer uptime though its Uptime Center, which consolidates under one roof the people and systems needed to monitor and respond to vehicle issues in real time, including 24/7 support through Volvo Action Service and ASIST experts.
